made in 2025, unearthed is a moving-image artwork by Alannah Bates. It traces Ireland’s folkloric traditions by reconstructing sacred sites and ritual objects in virtual reality. Made by piecing together 3D scanned folk-shrines and 3D modelled digital environments, the piece takes the form of a non-linear moving-image artwork which combines VR environments, CGI, 3D modelling, poetry and speculative fiction.
